Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American novelist and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women and its sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys. With the rebellious Jo fighting against the conventions of the age regarding feminine behaviour, the beautiful Meg being launched into a society above her perceived social place, and the arrival of Laurie the young next door neighbour with his tutor John Brooke, the stage is set for romantic drama. This heart-warming story has entertained audiences world-wide, and the March sisters – the tomboy Jo, the beautiful Meg, the spoilt Amy, and the angelic Beth – have inspired generations of little girls. Montgomery was influenced by Alcott’s story - it was hard not to be at the turn of the 20th century. ![]() ![]() We follow the adventures of the March family in 1864 America. On her way back from Boston in November of 1910, Lucy Maud Montgomery visited Concord, Massachusetts, where Louisa May Alcott lived and wrote Little Women.
